BREAD AND BUTTER
PUDDING
  • Description:

    Everyone loves the comforting taste of bread and butter pudding. With our easy recipe, you’ll save cash and delight friends and family. Feel free to add a splash or two of Amarula for that extra burst of flavour. Preparation: 15 min. Cooking: 40 min. Serves 4–6

  • Ingredients:

    1/3 cup (80 ml) margarine
    1 loaf day old white bread, crusts on; sliced thickly
    2 eggs 

    1 1/2 cups (375 ml) milk
    1/3 cup (80 ml) brown sugar 

    1 tsp. (5 ml) cinnamon
    1/4 cup (60 ml) Amarula (optional) 

  • Method:

    1. Preheat oven to 180 °C. Grease a 1.5L glass baking dish with a little margarine.
    2. Spread margarine on one side of each slice of bread, and slice or tear into chunks.
    3. Whisk eggs, milk, sugar and cinnamon together. Add Amarula if using.
    4. Arrange the torn chunks of bread in the greased dish and pour the egg mixture over. Set aside for about 10–15 min. to soak up the liquid.
    5. Bake for 30–35 min., or until set and golden.
    6. Serve with custard, cream or ice cream.
