French Toast
for Toddlers
  • Description:

You can’t go wrong with a good French toast recipe – even more so when it’s made with healthy low-GI bread. Toddlers are known to be fussy eaters, so try and make meal times fun for your little one by creating little faces on the toast using jam and fruit pieces, for instance. Serving size for toddler: 4 soldiers/bread strips.

  • Ingredients:

5 slices low-GI bread (cut each one lengthways into 4 equal strips or ‘soldiers’)
    2 eggs

    ½ cup milk
    ½ tsp. cinnamon

    1 tbsp. butter
    2 tsp. honey

  • Method:

    1. In a shallow bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, cinnamon and honey until combined.
    2. Dip each soldier in the mixture until evenly coated.
    3. Heat a pan (medium heat) with a bit of butter (or non-stick cooking spray).
    4. Cook for 3 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.

    Tips and variations:

Traditionally, French toast is served with honey/syrup. To make this meal even more nutritious, serve with fresh seasonal fruit instead.
